Over time, the arrogant, presumptuous establishment of borders became a standard practice of settlers and colonizers.
It was a practice that betrayed their utter disregard for the value and humanity of indigenous populations throughout the world.
Here, in North America, vast stretches of territory that were originally controlled by Mexico and various indigenous nations were stolen or otherwise acquired, creating conditions leading ultimately to the crises related to the U.S. southern border.
The great irony is that as heavily armed and masked ICE marauders stalk the streets of U.S. cities accosting and arresting individuals who fit a racial profile, and whose only “crime” is crossing the border, the real crime is that but for historical territorial theft these people in the southwestern regions of the U.S. would have been in Mexico where the federal government would have no jurisdiction.
