Robert Stewart edited the literary journal New Letters at The University of Missouri-Kansas City for many years. His 2023 book of poems, "Higher," won Prize Americana. His books of essays include "The Narrow Gate: Writing, Art & Values and Outside Language," He won a National Magazine Award in 2008 from the American Society of Magazine Editors.
