Republican politicians and some voters will claim that systemic racism does not exist. My Sociology professor had us watch a video in class and I was grateful to finally have something I could show the next person claiming that systemic racism is just a “woke” ideology from critical race theory.
I think GOP politicians make false claims like that as a way of covering up their White Nationalism and their base, a percentage of which happens to be racist.
It could also be a way for them to assuage the guilt they feel for the racist policies they’ve championed over the years, including the act of gerrymandering maps to disenfranchise voters of color.
