Olivia McMurrey is a freelance journalist based in Birmingham, Alabama. Her multimedia storytelling encompasses a wide range of topics as well as local, regional and national perspectives. She has special interest in labor, economic, education and environmental reporting, and her work has won national and regional awards. McMurrey earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a past president of Alabama Media Professionals and currently chairs the organization’s News Literacy Committee.
