Overnight, Russian forces unleashed a sweeping attack on Ukraine — launching over 650 drones and 51 missiles — striking energy, transport and infrastructure sites across at least eight regions. Key targets included power stations, rail hubs, and even a nuclear-facility zone, as winter sets in and the war enters its fourth year
Ukrainian air defenses intercepted the majority of the assault — shooting down 585 drones and 30 missiles — but the strikes still caused widespread blackouts, disrupted water and heat supply, and forced shutdowns at some facilities.
“Russia continues to disregard any peace efforts and instead strikes critical civilian infrastructure, including our energy system and railways.”
A major railway depot near Kyiv, in the town of Fastiv, was damaged — leading to train cancellations and affecting rail transport in and around the capital.
The attack comes even as officials from Ukraine and the United States meet in Miami for a third day of diplomatic talks aimed at forging a security framework for postwar Ukraine. But analysts warn that with Russia escalating its bombardment of civilian infrastructure, any agreement will hinge on Moscow’s willingness to significantly scale back attacks — a prospect that appears uncertain
