I had no idea that a Post Malone and Billie Eilish duet was something I needed in my life. Now that I know, reality sucks even more.
I’m not as cool as I thought I was just a few years ago. I have no clue what songs are popular right now, who the hottest new vocalist is, or which artist is on everyone’s gym playlist. I’ve never listened to Top 40 radio, so I’ve always been out of the pop culture loop—listening to artists my friends never even heard of. I went through a few different musical identify “phases” growing up and I ended up with a very eclectic taste in music.
The Phases
The first phase was Rap/Hip-Hop: The cassette tapes in my Walkman was Public Enemy or NWA. Then it was my “raver girl phase: I went to clubs and danced to live DJs in abandoned warehouses. I was listening to Techno, House, Trance, Drum n Bass, and Jungle. I still watch a lot of Tomorrowland videos and dance in my chair. The last of my musical “identities” was the darkest. I wore clothing without color—all black, my eye makeup was always way too “smokey,” and I developed a fondness for interior design that made a bedroom look like a vampire lair. During this period I was listening to Goth, (Switchblade Symphony ❤️), Industrial (Dope, Ministry), New Wave (The Cure, Depeche Mode), and hard rock (KoRn, NIN).
The last phase never ended—it just expanded to include favorites from each of the prior phases. I ended up with a very eclectic taste in music that’s largely dependant upon my mood in the moment.
Now that you know my musical background, this post should make a little more sense.
This morning, I watched the latest episode of The Voice. One of the artists sang a song I didn’t know by a popular artist I had never heard of. It was so good! I searched for the song’s official VEVO video on YouTube so I could hear what the original sounded like.
I now have every song by this artist on my playlist.
Post Malone and Billie Eilish
While watching videos, I noticed a Post Malone and Billie Eilish duet among the recommendations. I love them individually, so how could a Post Malone and Billie Eilish collab do anything other than hit HARD?
I can already sense your judgement and hear your comments mocking my stupidity. So SIMMER DOWN! I’m getting there!
Long story kinda short, I started adding each and every one of their videos to a new Post and Billie playlist so I could listen to it on TV while I work. As I was saving the last video I noticed a label added by YouTube and learned the devastating truth and my new favorite couple. In my defense, I did figure out that the song wasn’t a real duet between them. I was just a little slow on the “All of them are AI-generated, they never sang together and they aren’t dating” part.
I felt sad after I realized that nothing about the entire Post Malone and Billie Eilish story in my head (and heart) was real.
LOL guys, I’m fine. I feel kinda dumb now, the purpose of this post is to share that playlist. I think by sharing the different phases I went through growing up makes it easier for you to understand why that embarrassing thing happened to me. Sharing that story with you is just how “I roll” and why part of Resist Hate’s tagline is Real, authentic commentary.
The Playlist
Here are videos of the fake collaboration between Post Malone and Billie Eilish. The video thumbnails totally fooled me and I legitimately believed they were a couple. AI just fooled me for the first time where the reality made me sad.
