SAN FRANCISCO—In a federal hearing on Friday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta questioned the presence of National Guard troops in California after the President had initially deployed them to Los Angeles during immigration protests in June.
“… Judge Breyer suggested conditions in Los Angeles had changed since the initial deployment, and he questioned whether the administration could control state Guard troops “forever” under its interpretation of federal law. The Judge also noted that “no crisis lasts forever. I think experience teaches us that crises come and crises go. That’s the way it works.”
AG Bonta questioned the attorney for the government about any evidence indicating that the local authorities were either unwilling or unable to keep federal personnel and property safe in the area. He also noted how Trump has access to tens of thousands of active duty military troops in California.
