The stories coming out about ICE raids in the form of cellphone videos and reporting by local news outlets are heart-wrenching. It’s now reached the point where I have to look away from videos of ICE or CBP officers violently assaulting people.

I love to see videos of federal agents in neighborhoods with the entire community out in the street “kicking them out.” It’s satisfying to watch them drive away in fear and defeat.

The Venezuelans who were sent to CECOT in El Salvador with no due process was a story I followed until they were freed. 75% of the men Kristi Noem sent to that torture prison had never committed a crime. I won’t get into the stories of individuals here, but you can get those details from previous articles if you’re interested.

Because I’m so angry and heartbroken over the cruelty and violations of human rights our country is engaged in, It made me feel a little bit of joy to see Kristi Noem forced to confront a veteran she deported after he served this country and lived here for 30 years.

A husband got to look her in the eye as Representative Magaziner confronted Noem about his wife who’s been in a detention center facing deportation to Ireland. This woman is married to an American veteran and has children. She came here as a child and has lived here for decades. The only crime she’s guilty of is writing 2 bad checks totaling $80 20 years ago. That’s all it took for them to take her green card and force her to leave her family.

Is that what America is about now? I hope not because I can’t stomach it.
