Don Lemon was arrested by Donald Trump’s DOJ this morning, along with three independent journalists who were also covering a protest at the Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The fact that Trump has escalated his attack on press freedom from rhetoric and attacks to arresting reporters he doesn’t like, should concern us all.
Attorney General Pam Bondi posted about Don Lemon’s arrest on X. In her post, she referred to the protest at the church as a “coordinated attack.” At this point, we wouldn’t expect anything less from this administration. They lie and spew hateful rhetoric when speaking about someone on the Left.
Lemon’s attorney issued a statement after he was arrested. He has since been released.

“Arresting a journalist for doing his job is a blatant attack on the First Amendment. Don Lemon should never have been put in handcuffs for exercising protected freedoms of the press. This is dangerous, unconstitutional, and must not stand. What makes this even more egregious is that a federal magistrate judge previously declined to sign an arrest warrant, finding prosecutors had not established probable cause.
“When our judicial system determines an arrest lacks legal foundation, it highlights just how severe this violation of constitutional rights truly is. A free press is the cornerstone of our democracy. When journalists are intimidated, detained, or arrested for reporting the news, we all lose.”
